Evolution vs. Creatism

This is one of the oldest arguments presented by a Science teacher who is also a Christian. I definitely acknowledge that evolution does exist and is proven through fossil records and radioactive dating. I also acknowledge that there has been at least 5 major mass extinctions recorded where more than 50% of all life was destroyed. Is it possible that God placed Adam and Eve on Earth after one of these mass extinctions?
